All about my hair

My long hair is my life. Well, was my life.

In my teen years, my hair had always been long. The shortest I cut it was when I was 19, but even that wasn't even that short. It's longer than shoulder length, so that doesn't really count as 'short'. I think I have some kind of a disease where I'm scared of losing my long hair. Normal people are scared of the dentists, I'm scared of the hairstylists. That's how paranoid I am when it comes to my hair. Despite that though, I've always been bored with long hair, to be honest but I can't do anything about it, can I? Since I am really scared to even have my ends trimmed.

I have been thinking and contemplating on cutting my hair short. Like, short short. As in, shoulder short but of course I didn't have the guts to actually do it. I was thinking and running the images of me having short hair in my mind but I never had the courage to walk into a salon. A few months back, I decided to man up and just hit the salon. So I did.

I came out of the salon with my new hair but not satisfied. I chickened out and asked the hairstylist to cut only around 2 inches of my hair. That was more like a trim than an actual cut, I know. I was really scared okay!

Then, last weekend, I went to Pahang to visit my little brother at his boarding school. He wanted to cut his hair since it's growing and we went to the usual salon we always go to there in Pahang. I said to Mom I wanted to get a haircut too. I Googled images of celebrities with short hair and I settled with Emma Stone's hair do. It wasn't long but it wasn't that short either. I wanted something different with my hair because I seriously was getting bored with having the same long hair for like, more than 10 years, I'm not even kidding. The last time I cut it short was when I was 10. Now, I'm almost 22. How can I not be bored with it right?

So I walked into the salon last weekend, feeling so rebellious because I decided to cut it short. After the hairstylist was done with my hair, she blow dried it and it was done. I wasn't satisfied with the outcome. Not because it didn't turn out great, but it was because I still couldn't see any difference. So, I did something really outrageous.

"Cut it short, until here", I said while making hand gestures to the hairstylist, pointing on my shoulders.

The hairstylist just grinned and asked, "Are you sure?"

I closed my eyes and nodded. "Yes".

The hairstylists took her scissor and placed it to my hair and stopped, looked at me in the mirror and asked again, "Are you really really sure about it? Because I have my scissor on your hair now..."

I thought if I think about it further, I will definitely change my mind. So I decided to just go with it and said, "I'm so sure. Just cut it now before I change my mind again."

So..... yes. My hair is short now.

To be frank, I actually sweat like, a lot through the whole hair cutting process because I was nervous. What if it turns out ugly? What am I going to do then?

So the first few days I wasn't really sure whether I like that new hair or not. I've been hearing a lot of comments on my new hair when I posted a picture on my Twitter. Some of them said they like it, that it looks fresh and cute on me but they are people who don't like it that much, saying they like my long hair better.

But none of that matters, right? I mean, it's my hair. So I should decide whether I like it or not. So, today, now, after 4 days of having short hair, I've decided that I actually like it. Not only it's easier to wash and style, but I think it looks okay on me.

So that's my experience cutting my hair short after more than 10 years of having long hair. It was very nerve-wrecking but definitely worth it. I needed the change and glad I went with it in the end!
