Turning a Quarter Century Old with A Heart Attack

So this is how it feels like being old.

It feels like.... nothing.

Well, the difference is that I don't really wait for the clock to strike 12.00AM anymore. I didn't even care what time it was,  I needed my beauty sleep! I slept at 10PM the night before my birthday. I used to stay up late just to see if my family has a surprise planned for me and sometimes I stayed up late just to read all my friends' wishes on WhatsApp, Facebook and all the social medias I have. I have been pretty busy with work, my dissertation and my wedding preparation that I honestly almost forgot about my birthday. It wasn't until Fara texted me saying "Your birthday is in a few hours!". Then it hit me right it the face.

Why don't I care about my birthday anymore? Birthday used to be the biggest deal of my life. Birthdays are my thing. Now I started to think that birthdays are just birthdays. You have birthdays every year. What's so special about it?

WHAT. IS. WRONG. WITH. ME.

Is it because I'm old? I don't think so. So, why didn't I feel excited? I didn't even look forward to it, to be honest. Maybe because I was (still am) too busy with my life that I think there are so many other important things that I need to take care of that my own birthday seems like it's nothing.

On the night before my birthday, I honestly didn't remember. I went to sleep at 10.30pm because I was so tired and I had a really bad day that day. One thing you have to know about me is that I always sleep earlier than usual when I had a rough day because I think sleeping it off is better than just staying up thinking about how bad the day had been. So I texted my fiancé good night and went to sleep without even waiting for his reply.

I was in a deep sleep when someone knocked on my door. Was sleepy and grumpy, so I opened up the door with a growl. Saw my sister, Nina's panic face. Her hands were shaking and her eyes were wild. Something bad must have happened and all the grumpiness went away, replaced by worry. According to Nina, she saw someone, a shadow standing outside her bedroom window. She said she went into her room and went straight to the toilet but she saw a shadow through her white curtains. OMG, just writing about it made my heart thump right now. It was so scary to hear, but being the bigger sister, I had to show that I was brave to protect her. But I couldn't face that alone, so I dragged her to our parents room to call Dad. However, our Dad wasn't in the room. I heard the TV downstairs, so I knew he was downstairs watching the midnight news like he always does. So I had no choice but to wake Mom up and told her the whole thing. Mom face was shocked but the three of us tip-toed to Nina's room, which is just next to mine. I slowly pushed her door and there it was.

A freaking shadow, just like how she described. Tall and buff. I imagined the person standing outside the window to be scary looking and have the baddest intention.

My hands were shaking and I can hear my own heartbeat through my own ears, I'm not even kidding.

"Thump. Thump. Thump."

Subtle knocks on the window.

My heart jumped.

I didn't know what to do. I wanted to go to the window and see who was there and what did he/she want but I was too shaky and scared that the person had a weapon. So I told Nina to run downstairs to call our Dad while Mom and I stayed to make sure the person stays there. I hugged Mom while waiting for Dad.

Dad came up with a torchlight and went straight to the window. He looked and said "maybe it was just a cat because there's no one here." My eyes widened and with a shaky voice, I told my Dad, "it couldn't be just a cat! We saw a tall shadow standing right there and the person even knocked on the window!". Confusion plastered on my Dad's face and he held his hand up, motioning to open the window. I ran to him and asked him to stop because I was scared that the person attacks him straight. As I ran to the window, I was too late. Dad already opened the window and I saw a hand reaching inside. I screamed, wanting to pull Dad when I saw pink balloons.... And curls.

Yeap, it was Amin.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THESE PEOPLE.

Seriously. What did I do to deserve such heart attack?!

When I said the shadow was tall and buff...

Well, I take that back.

More like tall and fluffy. Pftttttt.

Okay, maybe August is not only about my birthday. But other things too but whatever. This post will be focusing on my birthday anyway. Hehe.

First of all, I would like to let you guys know that I'm doing this because I was forced to do it. I didn't want to post any wish list this year but someone wants me to make her life easier, so she demanded me to post it. Her reason being - "we've been friends since third grade and I have never missed out a birthday. Now we're 23 so I'm running out of ideas on what to give you for your birthday."

Oh well. Here it is, Fara. I hope you'll get me the most expensive item on this list because I posted this just for your convenience (and everyone else who wants to give me birthday presents too. Haha).

Birthday Wishlist

It's August! My most favorite month in the year because it's my birthday month! I've always loved birthdays because of the celebrations, the balloons and the presents. I can't deny it, I really love presents. Doesn't matter whether I'm the one who's giving it or I'm the one who receive it. I just love presents in general!

It's August 5th today and Eid will be in less than 3 days! So exciting! My birthday is August 16th, which is in less than 2 weeks. I don't usually celebrate with a huge party of whatever. It usually will be a quiet dinner with family and closed ones and I doubt it will be any different this year. Not that I'm complaining though because I actually enjoy celebrating only with the ones I'm closed to. It feels a lot more personal than a massive party. The only difference this year is that my Zahir isn't going to be here to celebrate it with me. After 5 years of celebrating it together, it will no doubt be hard for me.

But anyway, the purpose of me talking about my birthday in this post is because I made a list. A list of things I actually wish to have since it's my birthday month.

1. Canon EOS 600D

This camera is on top of my list because I have been wanting to upgrade my camera for so long. I really want to film on a more quality camera than what I have now because I find myself really loving making videos and I think I'm going to make videos for as long as I live. So this camera will not only be an upgrade but also as an investment. I wouldn't mind not getting anything else on this wish list if I get this one!

2. Clarisonic Mia

I have been wanting the Clarisonic Mia for as long as I can remember but never got around to own them. My skin is very sensitive so I'm hoping this would cleanse my face from all the dirt on my face everyday.

3. Juicy Couture Wristlet

I'm not saying I want this one in particular. I just want a nice wristlet, not too big, just perfect to fit my iPhone, ID and some money so I can bring the wristlet instead of a big purse to carry around everywhere I go. I don't mind getting any wristlet as long as it can fit my phone. Preferably from Juicy Couture, Kate Spade or Michael Kors.

4. Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette

This palette is perfect. Urban Decay always comes up with the most brilliant palette of all time and this one is not an exception. It has three of the face's essentials : blusher, highlighter and bronzer. The size is perfect to carry around in your purse or even to bring for travel. It's just PERFECT.

5. Benefit's Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer

This is also one of the products that I would really love to try. I'm not sure if it's already available here in Malaysia but I've heard so many good reviews on this primer. Hoping I'll have the chance to try this myself!

So those are everything that I have on my Birthday Wish List this year. I only have 5 items because I think having too many things on my list isn't good. If I were to list down every littlest thing that I want, that list will go on forever. But these are the top 5 items that I have been wanting on top of everything else.

So now, go ahead. Buy me one of these, wrap it in a pink wrapping paper and give it to me on August 16th ;)

Haha of course, I'm kidding. Wait... maybe I'm not.

Okay I am kidding!

If your birthday is also in August, comment below let me know your birthdate and we can be best friends forever! You can tell me what you have on your birthday wish list too! :)

Mom's Birthday

My mom is the only role model I had and have. She's the only woman I really look up to. Why? Because she's a superwoman. She takes care of 4 children, do all the works around the house, she cooks amazingly, she's a teacher (which to me, is the most sincere job in the planet), she can be best friends with her kids but can be really strict on certain cases as well (I'm not complaining, I swear! Hehe), she's a good listener, I can talk to her about anything & everything and there are a thousand more things I could list down but it's impossible because the list can go on forever. Basically, she's my superwoman. My heart and soul. My everything.

It would be crazy if I didn't make her feel like a queen on her birthday. I mean, that's the least I could do, compared to all the sweats and efforts she put in to raise all my siblings and I. Dad had a meeting in Ipoh on her birthday, but he promised he'll be back on time for the birthday dinner I planned for Mom. Mom didn't know though, that Dad would be joining. She thought it would be just us girls ; herself, Nina, Fara and I. "It's going to be a girls night out and it's on me because it's your birthday," I told Mom. She hesitated at first, probably didn't have the mood to go for a celebration without Dad. However, Nina and I are really good at persuasion. So... Mom got ready for the dinner.

In the car, I blindfolded Mom with my sleeping mask. Didn't want her to know I was actually tailing behind Zahir's car because I didn't know the way to the restaurant. When we arrived, we had to go up on a hill, and Mom was so nervous, saying things like 'are we hiking?' and 'are we in a forest? Because I swear I could hear crickets and I can smell the leaves!' We laughed so hard all the way from the car to the table.

When we arrived at the table, Zahir, Zarif and Dad were already there and they've set up the table with balloons, cupcakes and flowers.

Mom's expression when I opened the blind fold was priceless. She straight away hugged me, I could see that she was sincerely happy that night. Mission accomplished!

I love you, Mama. I wouldn't trade you with anything or anyone in this world. I will always include you and Dad in my prayers. Hope you enjoyed your birthday dinner this year!

My little brother is 14

I hate how my younger siblings grow so fast. They used to be so small and cute... Hehe. Not that they're not now, but they just grew too fast!

Ipan's birthday was on September 9th but since he's so far away, we wished him through the phone. But he came back from his boarding school before Abang went back to The States. So we planned to surprise him the night he came back. We invited only his close friends who live in the same building as us and because we knew his friends love karaoke, Mom said we might as well make it a karaoke party at Red Box.

We were given 9pm to 1am. Guess what time we went back home? 4 in the freaking morning!! It was definitely one amazing night. Despite everything that happened before, I had a great time with them. Trust me, you don't even want to know what happened because they were too many incidents even before we reached Red Box. The boys said it was my bad-luck-day. The ice cream cake melted in Summer (my car), for God's sake. And that wasn't even the worst part.

But like I said, the night turned out great after all, Alhamdulillah :)

The melted cake.
And.. because it was melted, we decided to just dig in without plates. I know it's gross and looks disgusting but it tasted so good!
