Lisa Magazine October 2013 Issue

A couple of months ago, I was approached by one of my friends who is currently working for Lisa magazine. If you don't know what Lisa is, it is a local Malaysia magazine that includes everything girls like. Fashion, beauty and solutions to life's problems, you name it!

My friend, Alia Roslan or better known as Yaya works for the magazine and called Fara and I for an interview for their BFF issue. She said she knows Fara and I have been close since we were 9, so she thought it would be appropriate for us to be featured in the magazine and tell their readers some stories and our experiences being friends for so long.

A couple of days ago, I bought the magazine and saw the spread of us. It was amazing!! Thank you Alia :)

Go get your copy of the October 2013 issue of Lisa magazine now if you want to read our friendship story ;)

BBW 2012 ; My Experience

No guys. It's not Bath & Body Works...

I was disappointed too at first. When people started tweeting BBW, I was like, "Bath & Body Works? In Malaysia?" Sigh how misleading can tweets be? :(

.
Turned out BBW isn't Bath & Body Works after all, but it was still something exciting!
It's Big Bad Wolf 2012!! The biggest book fair in Malaysia was back. It ended last weekend and I'm glad I went. I didn't go last year because crowds and me do not mix well. Sweats, gasping for air and snatching books with strangers? No, thank you.

I went on the last day of the event, which was last Sunday. I guess the crowd wasn't that bad. Everyone was civilized. Phewww! *wipes sweat off forehead* I imagined some hair pulling, books snatching and cat fights. Okay... maybe I watch Gossip Girl too much. Hehe. But in all seriousness, BBW was amaze-beans, guys! If you didn't go, you better have a serious-can't-avoid-situation as your excuse because there's no way that you could miss Big Bad Wolf just because you 'didn't want to get caught in traffic outside the Mines Convention Centre' or that you 'need to take care of your baby sister at home'. You should have brought your baby sister along with you if that's your last resort!

Big Bad Wolf 2012 was held at the Mines Convention Centre (MIECC) from December 7th until December 23rd. That's a whole long time for you to give excuses to not go, okay! I nearly missed it this year actually because like I said, crowds and me don't mix well. But when my sister asked my Dad to bring her there, I was like 'why not check it out? Won't be too bad'. Turned out, it wasn't that bad at all.   I enjoyed searching for books in the swarm of other bookworms like me and I certainly enjoyed walking with books scattered all over the floor. It was like heaven on earth for me, surrounded with all those great-smelling-books. Oh and we were approached by a guy working for BBW, asking us to do like a shout out for them. I quite had the feeling the reason he approached us in the first place was because he saw us carrying these two really big boxes filled with books. Yeap, we all went crazy. Even Dad couldn't control himself. The books were RM 8, RM 10 and most of the hard covered ones were only RM 12 - RM 15. Heck, there was even a graphic novel, fully colored, priced at RM 3. How is that not awesome?

Of course, I was more attracted to this section the whole time :

And because John Lennon was my boyfriend :

When all of us were tired from all the book searchings, we all found a corner to sit (on the floor) and go through all the books again, whether we really want to buy it or will it just be an impulse buy. I ended up not taking 3 books out of the 15 I had in my box of books.

When all of us had filtered the books, Dad was complaining how it will be a long queue to pay. However, we didn't have to fret because there were 30 counters opened and the cashiers were extremely efficient in doing their work.

My box of books.

So that was my experience at the Big Bad Wolf 2012. I might do a book haul video soon, showing what books I got. So keep checking in for that. To those who went as well, what do you guys think of it? Did you have a great time there?

Books are my life

Okay, that's not entirely true. But books are kind of important to me. Without books, I would be one boring girl. Of course, my laptop is my number one entertainment, but I just love my books. I love going to bookstores and spend hours in there, choosing books to buy. I love the smell of books, I love holding books, I love everything about them, especially when the contents are as nice as the appearance. Honestly, I judge a book by it's cover, literally. When I 'm in a bookstore, I'll pick up the nicest book on the shelves. Mostly the pink ones or if a book has a good cover. I personally love the hard covered ones because it's prettier. But it's kind of hard for me to carry hard covered books in my purse everywhere because obviously, it's heavier. Sometimes a book is published in two covers. The normal one and the hard covered ones. I always choose the hard covered rather than the normal ones though its going to be hard to carry everywhere. Yes, I'm one stubborn girl.

I collect books as much as I collect bags. I have a lot of books to the extend that I think I might need another shelf for them. I love all of my books but of course, I have my favorites among them. I started collecting books since I was 9, so choosing my favorites among all of them was pretty hard. But I managed to downed it to just a few.

My most favorite author is Rachel Cohn. She's the first author I search for every time I'm in a book store. But sadly, the last book I saw her published was Cupcake. Which was like, 4 or 5 years ago. But seriously, I love her way of writing, it's like I can imagine the whole story in my head when I read her books. So of course, when I was trying to figure out my favorite books, Rachel Cohn's name automatically popped into my head. Of all her books that I have, on top of my list is Gingerbread.

And the sequels, Shrimp and Cupcake.
I love all of them, I've read them like, over a gazillion times!

Next on my favorites are all the Lauren Conrad's sequels.

Lauren Conrad really knows how to write and I can't help but to think that the story is based on her own life. Maybe she gave it a little twist here and there but it's basically about a girl who did a reality show of her own life, just like her own Laguna Beach/The Hills. And the cover of the books are definitely a plus!

Last October, I found out Hilary Duff was publishing a book she wrote herself. Being a fan of her since 12, I couldn't wait for the book to be published in Malaysia. If you know me well, you'll know I'm not really a patient kind of girl. I wanted the book as fast as I can. So I asked my brother who's staying in the States to buy it for me. Hehe.

To be honest, Elixir wasn't really the kind of books I would buy because it's kind of unrealistic. Reading this book, I had the chance to widen my imagination to a whole new level. I always read girly type of books but Elixir is totally different from all of that. But since it's Hilary Duff, I'm being bias here. I thought I wasn't going to like the book at first but I was totally wrong. I love the book! It's so thrilling, my heart was thumping, literally. I finished the book just in one day because I couldn't wait any longer to know the ending. It was so intriguing, I couldn't help it!

Other than all these fiction books, I also love celebrities' or fashion books. So next on my favorite books list is Style by Lauren Conrad (again!). This book really helped me a lot.

Believe it or not, I was really bad at doing the cat eye look using a liquid eyeliner, but after reading this book, I now know the techniques. It's really amazing, how she gives tips on how to match clothes, how to make up and things like that.

I recently got a book that I've been searching for high and low for almost 4 years. It's Influence by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. It has been sold out in Malaysia since 4 years ago and so, I used my brother again. Hehe.

That's about it for my favorite books. And currently, I'm reading Last Night at Chateau Marmont by Lauren Weisberger.

I don't know if it's that great because I'm not even halfway yet, but so far, it's good :)

Reading

I've kept a book called Starbucked on my book shelf for a month now, without even reading the first page. I bought two books a month ago, both are two different genres. Starbucked is a more serious book and all about guidelines and how to(s) in business. Where else the other one is 10 Things I hate About Me, a chic lit book. I've finished reading the chic lit first, of course. I would choose a novel over a serious looking book any time. But I heard Starbucked is very good, so I decided to buy it. I've never pictured myself reading this kind of books but people change. In fact, Starbucked is my first serious book.

You can really see the obvious genre difference just by looking at their covers, right?? Finally, a prove that we actually can judge a book by it's cover (because I always fall for nice pretty book covers)! Anyway, seeing that I've finished the novel, I was thinking of starting to read Starbucked.

But, my finals are starting next week and my first paper is Asas Pembudayaan Kusahawanan(Basic Culture Entrepreneurship), so I had to put Starbucked back on my book shelf, and started reading this :

Hundreds of pages of this. It contains 11 topics altogether and it's in Malay. I know I am a Malay myself but I had the hardest time understanding what the book has to say. Despite using Malay to talk (which was not proper Malay anyway), the real Malay language is actually really complicated. I never thought Malay is this hard! The last time I learned Malay language was in secondary school and I didn't remember coming across words like "kompetensi" in the text book or the Literature books.

The sentence that I'm most confused about is this : "lokus kawalan dalaman". First, I don't even know what lokus means, is it suppose to be like locus or something?? Second, what does the whole sentence even mean? And third, I don't even know how to pronounce it. Is it 'lo-kes' or 'lo-kuus'?? I ended up memorising the whole sentence without knowing what it actually means. I know, I know, I shouldn't be calling myself a Malaysian any more. So embarrassing...

However, this made me realise that we Malaysians don't use our own language that often. We should be proud of it like the Italians and French people do to their own languages. I'm not saying we should not use English at all, but I think we should balance it out. But not by mixing those two languages together, of course because then, it'll be Manglish, not proper Malay or English. We should talk in Malay as much as we talk in English. To me, language is the most crucial asset in a country. It shows our culture and why shouldn't we be proud of our culture? We should!!

But of course, don't go all Malay on a European tourist asking you the directions to KLCC. Know when and where to use those two languages and to master both of them is really good.

Don't be like me. I'll be crying and running back home when someone asks me what "kompetensi" is. Not a very good Malaysian advising other Malaysians to be proud of their own language, right here. I should be dedicating this post to myself...

How sad.

How about you guys? Do you prefer Malay or English??

Dance dance

The girls are coming to my house later this afternoon. We're going to try and rent the dance studio at the pool to practice. The reason we changed our venue to my house instead of the school hall is because of that old virgin. You know, the LEE BITCH, according to Mommy. Yeah, we figured why should we see her ugly face again in that school? I might die if I see her face again, no kidding. The girls were so excited to come to my house and I think it's better for us since we're going to practice in a proper dance studio now. Zahir's coming over to hang with us and watch us dance too.

I'm about to finish Dear John, I'm at the part where John left Savannah and Tim's house. It was so sad that I had to like, stop reading for a while to dwell on my tears. Seriously. Savannah is so stupid, I wouldn't leave someone like John in the first place even if it means to wait for him for a year or two. I wouldn't mind because that's what love is about: Sacrifices.

We sure are cute for two ugly people

Finally bought new books! Note that I use plural there. Two books. Both are LC's books. Lover pinched in some money because I only had enough for one. Thank you so much babycakes :)

This morning, I slipped in my baju kurung in the morning and walked to Lecturer's Block to see Dr. Yong. The office said my results were mixed up with another group. But when I arrived there, I saw people swarming around there. After awhile sweating my clothes off, turned out that she moved to another room which was like, a thousand miles away from the old one. I was getting all cranky because I had to walk in the blazing sun. I don't actually mind the walking but the sun was the reason I felt like dying. Having no choice, I had to walk all the way there while the other have their cars. When I arrived, there was someone in her room so I had to wait. Luckily I can wait inside where the AC was on. Nothing felt better than that. After waiting for what felt like decades, turned out my results wasn't there either. God bless Dr.Yong because she actually made the effort to find it for me. She asked for my phone number and everything so she could help. I really appreciate it. So messed up system they have. Sigh

Go Arsenal !

Ay ay Travis ,
In honor of the two goals Fabregas scored just now, I decided to put up his photo. Awww isnt he just so hot ? I know, right. Arsenal won over Middlesborough with the score 2-0. Both of the goals were from Fabregas. Ahh, thank you Fabregas ! I was thinking to put up Arshavin's photo too but seeing how Fabregas was the one who scored, so I better gave him a chance and give him the spotlight for today. Yes, Arshavin is hot too but hey, I'll put up his photo someday. I promise. Haha oh and if you guys are saying I watch football just because of hot guys, well think again. You're wrong. I watched football because of Arsenal. Thats why I only watch Arsenal's matches :] I cant wait for this Thursday's match. Arsenal against Man. United. It'll be insane !

I managed to read New Moon until Chapter 20 today. 4 more chapters to go.

By the way, Zahir, I still remember your promise. Arsenal won, care to get me a cup of Choc Cream Chip ? :p

I'm going to read New Moon now and go straight to bed. Night, lovelies :]

January 1, 2009

Thump, goes my heart

As of today, January 1st 2009, the first day of the year 2009, obviously. As all my friends were out watching the fireworks with their friends and loved ones, I was stucked at home, with a headache, sore throat and a fever. I couldn't even bring myself on my feet. So, I was lying down on the couch as I didn't have any other option, I was alone in my house, Ipan and Nina had gone off to watch the fire works on the rooftop with their friends. Abang went to celebrate with his friends after work. And my parents went to the rooftop too. So i was lying down texting my boyfriend and feeling like, gosh, I have no life. But whatever. Zhr was out with his family and cousins. Fara was at The Curve with her boyfriend. Wow, Im such a loner. As the clock strikes 12am, I heard sounds, the fireworks and people screaming from god knows where. I cried for a bit realizing how 2008 has yet came to an end and as everyone was celebrating, Im all alone. Im sure gonna miss 2008 as that was the year I've had memories. Good ones and bad ones. 2008 was the year Zhr asked me to be his. 2008 was the year I was 17 and the last year I was in high school. 2008 was also the year I've earned bad grades in my studies. 2008 was also the year I've been backstabbed by my own bestfriends. 2008 was the year I was ditched by my bestfriend. And so, the list goes on. As the fireworks sounds became louder, I forced myself to look out the balcony next to the couch I was lying on. I could see fireworks everywhere. From Sunway, from Puchong, Bukit Jalil, KL, and everywhere ! I started thinking, not bad. Everyone saw fireworks at a place and I've got to see from several places. Yes, it was perfect, the fireworks and everything. Well, it was perfect minus my boyfriend. I wish he was there with me. As I was gazing into the sky with multi colour fireworks, a little bit of tears came out to the corner of my eyes. I don't know why but I thought it was kind of sad how a year, a complete 365 days passed ever so quickly. My birthday in 2008 was the best birthday in my entire life. I still remember how I was fooled by my boyfriend and friends. And the next thing I knew, they were all at my house with cupcakes in hands. I was surprised and I cried. Tears of joy (': I love them so much. But now, the year 2009, we are all in different directions. Except Zhr, that is. Fara is now always busy with her own life, leaving me clueless behind her. Lola is now in UK. Had some misunderstandings with Edora. Azri is busy with his job. Aizat Afiq is in Tuaran, Sabah due to his National Service he loathe so much. Look how much 2009 envy me. Everything is different. This is just a little. The next thing I know, I will be in college. Sigh, I dont want to grow up. Yes, sure it was nice to graduate from high school. But despite the fact that I dont have to open a History text book anymore, I miss my friends. My classmates, the most as they were the one who always make me laugh every single day. Why oh why, dear God do I have to be older a year every 365 days ? My life has its ups and downs, but the only one who is always there for me through thick and thin is my boyfriend. Yes, we may have argued or pulled a face to each other, but despite what I did to him, the hurtful words I've thrown, he's always there for me no matter what. I'm thankful that someone who is really great is mine. I am pretty much blessed on that. Life could never be perfect, I suppose. I will remember every bit and pieces of memories I've made in 2008. And to 2009, I'm begging you to slow down. Don't go too fast as I want to enjoy my time being 18 despite the fact that 18 is still an age that I call old. I cant change the fact that I'm 18, but I'm asking 2009 to slow its speed and don't go too fast like 2008 did, because I don't want to be older than I am now. Just one thing, when 2009 decides to go fast, I want everything I have in my life now to still be there with me in all the years yet to come. My family, Zahir Fikri, Fara Adibah. I want them all to be in my life every year. Though life can never be perfect, I'm convinced that with them, my life is perfect for me.

So, its 2009 and the future is coming to smack me right in the face. Result is coming out 3months from now and next ? College. Ahhh the word that Im afraid of since as long as I can remember.

Seeing how I could not even sit up straight on my butt without a headache yesterday, I had to lie down and nothing else. I wanted to just close my eyes and sleep but I couldnt either as my head is spinning like crazy and my body hurts. So, I took the time to read. And so my book I bought the other day, Top8, finished. That book is really interesting. Madison MacDonald, the girl in that book, is really obsessed with Friendverse. Friendverse is pretty similar to Myspace and Facebook. And she got hacked twice and the hacker decided to ruin Madison's life. She has 3 best friends but were very close to one of them, Ruth Miller as they were friends since elementary school. Everyone except her 3bestfriends hated her, she and her boyfriend broke up and he was dating someone else and everything sucked for her ever since her profile was hacked. But she met a guy, Nate. I saw his photo in the book and he is cuh-ute ! Lol. To make the long story short, she found out who the hacker was and I couldn't believe myself either. Turned out that her best friend, Ruth was the one who hacked her because Ruth was jealous of how perfect Madison's life was. Sick, I know. She ended up being best friends with just the remaining two girls. And ended up dating that Nate guy ! (: I am now reading the other book I bought, Huge. Im now on my third chapter. I'll tell you how the story is when I finish the book, alright (:

Im going to Parade and going to Bangi to visit mommy's friend who just gave birth. Wait, its Bangsar. Oh maybe Bangi. I dont know. Whichever, I want to get ready. Toodles !
Oh oh, and

Happy New Year !

:)
